are you dying to see a twist

Jeanie Feng is a 3rd year fashion student studying at derby university. Iv been given the pleasure of working with her whilst she puts together her final collection for the end of year graduation fashion show. Jeanie is inspired by textures such as brick, concrete and rust. She also uses graffiti as a concept for her work as well as the streets....You could call it broken streets... So are you dying to see a twist???

Teamwork!!

Before i became Jeanies 1st year i had never spoke to charlotte so meeting her was really nice! We really got on and just got down to what jeanie had asked us to do we worked together when we was both in at uni! Jeanie was great as well always there if we needed her or advice on how she wants us to do things, she always made sure we were ok with what we were doing and was really understanding if we couldn't always be in! But always gave updates via texts and e-mails! we all worked together in helping jeanie with her collection, it was a fun and good experience! it was nice when me and charlotte got each other as partners as dresses! it worked really well and we had a good routine on dressing the models!!

Graduate fashion show Derby Assembly rooms!

Being backstage as a dresser was a really good experience and it was fun! it wasn't half as bad as i thought it was going to be, I think all us 1st years pulled together and got on with it whilst having a laugh at the same time! All of the models were really nice and mine and charlottes 'jordanna' was a real laugh! They all looked great in the collections and even though there were slight problems with a few of the graments 'the shorts' things was easily dealt with and everything ran smoothly!

Seeing bits and pieces of the 3rd years collection in Fashion at uni was nice because you got to see a bit about there collection and even got to speak about there collections as well as gathering information about my own 3rd year!! But actually seeing all the collections on the models backstage was amazing and they all fantastic!! Well done 3rd years!!

More Head Pieces

Jeanie asked me and charlotte to make more heap pieces to go with the extra to garments for her collection! these head pieces were a lot more subtle than the previous to! I added the zip for detail around the front because the metal of the zip makes the headpiece have edge!!

Hair and Make-up

Through the weeks of focusing on the bigger things i didn't have a chance to really blog about the hair and the Make-up, Jeanies collection is very strong and edgy so naturally the hair and make-up had to be on the same level! Jeanie had us have our make-up with very pale skin and smokey dark eyes, then adding the lipstick which was a rich colour that stood out. i researched some images on big hair and dark make-up!!

The Collection

Jeanies collection is astonishing in my eyes, i think shes a brilliant designer. Her clothes are edgy yet have sophisticated structure to them. basing her ideas on broken streets such as rubble, constructional things, graffiti, worn textures! she uses all this is as the concept of her designs. You can see in fabric she uses in her collection how shes adapted this and interporated it into her work.

GRAFFITI

Some of jeanies designs have a prints that she had printed her self, on parts of the print there is graffiti. Graffiti is also something jeanie looked at for inspiration and to help build the concept of her designs.

I did some research on graffiti and tags, tags being the artists name. Over Easter i went to Amsterdam for four days and was in ore at how different artist spray over there its almost like it creates a story! whilst walking down one of the high streets i saw a dress in a shop, the whole dress had a graffiti print on it the fabric was amazing. I fell in love.

Graffiti has a lot of history behind it originating from the streets its like poetry and art in one, as well as identity.

Pattern cutting

I was asked to do some pattern tracing for jeanie, which of course i oblijed to. It was good for me to do as it was more practice for my pattern cutting skills.

The Photoshoot

The 18th of April 2011

I was very excited to be one of Jeanies models but as the day came i became quite nervous as I've never modeled before but as soon as i got into it i really started to enjoy my self. I think the locations was spot on for the image and style of Jeanies collection. The locations was very urban yet deserted and had a lot of edge to them.

Jeanies photographer was a little crazy well thats one word you could use for him. We had to calm him down in one sense he kind of had it in his head that this was his photoshoot and not jeanies! He wanted us to do some really weird stuff that had nothing to do with what jeanie wanted! She soon had it under controll and we got some really good shots!

Make a statement

My first job that i was given was to make a headpeice. i was given loads of Netting and other fabrics all black and one peice of grey, i had black rope like from a curtain tie back, tape from a caset tape, Black chain and lose lace fabric. i had to hand sew all this onto a shoulder pad and had to keep adding and adding to create more volume and structure i had to make a statement. I have previously used washes and bolts when revamping a jacket at home and i thought that they gave the jacket a really edgy look. So i ran my idea past jeanie to see if sewing washes and bolts would be something she would be interested in having on the head peice, she said yes and that she liked the idea...The head peice ended up looking really good and the washes and bolts added more of an edgy look instead of something big and glamerous.

As well as images Jeanie gave me for inspiration i looked at Philip Treacy because i love his head peices and some of them can be really eccentric at times. this helped with the structure and how i could go about creating it and adding the volume. http://www.philiptreacy.co.uk/

It has to go bad before it gets good...and good it got.

When 1st years was told that we would be assigned to a 3rd fashion student, I already new exactly who i wanted but getting her, well thats just a different ball game..

The lists are in i put my head in my hands nooo i didn't get the third year i wanted i believe the word im looking for is GUTTED!!! However panic over as a cupple weeks later i took my gutted self to the fashion studio to do some work for my 1st 3rd year when ann pulled me aside and told me the news i wanted to hear right from the very start, That i can work with Jeanie Feng for today and for the rest of the time she needs me!!! THANKYOU ANN :)

I first met jeanie when i was pattern cutting in the studio, she was oppisit me doing her pattern cutting for some leggings she was making which had kriss kross elastic from the thighs to almost the end of the feet i new from this she was right up my street. In that hour of her working accross the table from me we spoke about styles and what inspired her and i couldn't stop smiling...Shes someone i can relate to when it comes to fashion and styling we have similar views and like the same things. Graffiti the streets broken textures that make a area look rough which can create a look it can give you inspiration.

Over the next cupple of weeks i saw more and more of jeanies work and was more and more amazed at the talent she has. we developed more of a friendship purely based on the love and yes i feel confident enough to call it love for her work it really captures my eye. I told jeanie that i wanted her as my third year and she said she would like me to work with her as she thinks i have a attitude about me that ties in with her collection my face peircings also helped. When i told her she wasn't my 3rd year she still offered me the chance to model some of her garments which of course i jumped at the chance!! so i still had some inkling with her. BUT  all this became erelevent anyway because not only did model i became Jeanies little helper!!
